$150.00 per day - (The number of days will range from 12 to 18 days total)

 

POSITION: School Nurse

 

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A valid state license to practice as a registered nurse.
2. Public School Nurse certification, or any other certification required by the state.
3. Two years of experience in public health nursing, preferably in a school district.

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to: Building Principals

FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt

 

POSITION SUMMARY:
The nurse is responsible for providing the fullest possible educational opportunity for each district student, by minimizing absence due to illness, and creating a climate of health and well-being in the district school.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. The nurse shall conduct school health services including physical examinations, immunizations, and tests for hearing and vision.

2. The nurse shall assume responsibility for selection and referral of students in need of medical and dental care.

3. The nurse shall report to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics and other agencies on school medical matters.

4. The nurse shall maintain up-to-date cumulative health records on all students.

5. The nurse shall observe students on a regular basis to detect health needs.

6. The nurse shall assume authority in the absence of a physician for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered injury or emergency illness.

7. The nurse shall visit student homes, when necessary.

8. The nurse shall participate with school staff in developing and implementing a total school health program.

9. The nurse shall contact homes of children referred by principals.

10. The nurse shall advise on modifications of the educational programs that are necessary to meet the health needs of individual students.

11. The nurse shall prepare and submit reports for the superintendent and the State Board of Health.

12. The nurse shall authorize exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.

13. The nurse shall advise teachers on health matters, particularly regarding screening for student health defects.

14. The nurse shall assist school personnel in establishing sanitary conditions in the school.

15. The nurse shall attend committee meetings and conferences regarding health services and health curriculum.

16. The nurse shall participate in in-service training programs.

17. Should be in sufficient health to perform the essential functions of the job.
18. Performs all other duties and responsibilities assigned by administrator.
